What is Yoga?

Yoga literally translates as “to yoke” which is commonly interpreted as connecting the body, breath and mind into one united being. Yoga helps focus on the presence in the current moment, utilising tools such as asana (postures and movements), pranayama (breathwork practices), and meditation to achieve it. There are many variations of yoga, ones that have developed over time to suit our changing needs but usually drawing back to the ancient wisdom found in the heart of Yogic texts.

I’ve never practiced yoga before – can I still book a class?

Yes! Yoga can be for complete beginners and most classes offered will accommodate all students at any experience level. I’m happy to discuss any expectations prior to booking, just send me a message.

What are the benefits to practicing yoga?

Yoga has many benefits including building strength, increasing mobility, regulating the nervous system, promoting a sense of calm and wellbeing, improving sleep, decreasing stress, and many more.

I’m not flexible, is yoga right for me?

Absolutely. Yoga is not just for those with natural flexibility. The physical yoga practice (asana) may assist with gaining flexibility but this is not the only goal. Yoga can help you build strength, stability, and resilience.

I have an injury or condition – can I still join a class?

There are many ways to practice yoga and to adapt asana practice. In order to ensure you’re kept safe throughout, please disclose any pertinent information upon booking or contact me at yogawellnesswithizzie@gmail.com to discuss the details.

What should I wear to class?

You can wear any clothes that you feel comfortable in and that will allow you to move freely. If you’re joining a Yin class, please bring a jumper and socks to ensure your body stays warm during this slower paced movements.

What do I need to bring to class?

All you need is a yoga mat and I recommend bringing a bottle of water. You are free to bring along any other props that assist your practice if you wish, e.g., yoga strap, yoga blocks, eye pillow.

I’m pregnant – can I practice yoga?

Yoga throughout pregnancy is highly recommended for the physical and psychological benefits, however, as with most things during pregnancy you need to follow the advice of your own midwife/doctor based on your circumstances. If you practiced yoga pre-pregnancy, it is generally ok to practice throughout all trimesters. If you haven’t practiced before, it is generally recommended to start in your second trimester. Pregnancy yoga is designed to help you connect with your body and baby as you grow into matrescence, utilising calming practices that will carry you through your pregnancy, birth and into motherhood. Check out my current class offerings or send me a message to find out more or book a 1-2-1.

I’m postpartum – can I practice yoga?

Mum and baby yoga is a great way to connect with your baby, spend some well-deserved time focused on yourself, and connect with a like-minded mum community. Once you have been cleared for exercise by your GP (typically 6 weeks postpartum following a birth without complications or 8 weeks for more complex birth experiences or caesarean section recovery) you and your baby can come to class to meet other new mums, start to rebuild your strength, connect with your body, and improve mobility. All you need is your baby, change bag, and a yoga mat. Wear anything comfortable that allows you to move. This is a safe and supportive space so you can respond to your baby’s needs at any time – feed your baby, change them, play with them, cuddle them, get them to sleep – I’m there to facilitate your practice and help hold the baby whenever you need! Please see my current class offerings or send me a message to find out more.

What styles of yoga do you teach?

I teach a variety of styles of yoga and enjoy slow, flowing sequences that build mobility, strength, and connection with the body and breath. I currently teach Slow Flow classes and Mum & Baby Yoga. I’ve completed an 85-hour Prenatal and Postnatal yoga training to help support your journey through pregnancy and postpartum.

I love teaching Yin Yoga , Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra if a slower pace or extended meditation suits your needs and I often weave yin or restorative poses into our Slow Flow class schedule.

In all my classes, yoga is not about your natural flexibility, it’s about finding your self and staying present, going back into the world with a renewed sense of peace and some bodily ease.

Where can I join a class?

I currently teach in Petersfield and Clanfield in dedicated exercise spaces. For full class details, or to book online check out my classes page or send me a message.
